For months, I have been passing a neighborhood where there are black
squirrels. I tried to show you one once, but it was up a tree and hard to see.
While Chris was here last week, we drove through this neighborhood.
Behold the black squirrel.
As you see, he has a brown chest, but he is most definitely black
on top.
They are beautiful... there are at least two.
You can see the red chest plainly here.
I have been so busy the last few days that I have not had much opportunity for pictures.
I'm taking the camera to the Ag Hall with me tomorrow and Saturday, though.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures of this beautiful little squirrel.
There are several in my town. I read that they are a mutant of grey squirrels, but not fox squirrels.
ReplyDeleteIt's the time of year when we see those squirrels busily rounding up nuts to enjoy. I have seen a black one before but here at my house they are brown. Hope your Friday is a fantastic one !
ReplyDeleteNeat, I don't recall seeing any that color.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
I always enjoy your pics, esp. seeing "new" species; appreciate your for sharing. Here they're all grey or reddish w/ grey.

I've never ever seen a black squirrel! How unique!
ReplyDeleteMany years ago, some black squirrels took up residence in the schoolyard trees by my grandparents' home. We enjoyed watching squirrels so much. Unfortunately, we think the "normal" squirrels ran off the black squirrels. We suspect they may have retreated to the wooded area on the other side of the schoolyard.
ReplyDeleteHoly macaroni we never saw a black squirrel. Cool

Dad would love to have those in our yard, in a town not to far from us there is a ton of them and we have heard through the grapevine they are mean.

What a beautiful squirrel. We have lots of black ones where I live, but I've never seen a two-toned one like this. So cute.
ReplyDeleteThat's so neat! We have, in our neighborhood in town, a few black squirrels and every time there is a sighting, we all get excited. They are actually considered 'rare' in these parts too. Pretty cool!!
