The Unspeakable Cruelty of Men

I just came back from the food pantry... and when I came out the gate at 9:05, I saw a truck approaching from the south on our gravel road.  I could see something behind it... I could see lumps of gravel flying and it looked as if the muffler were dragging.  I thought to wave at the two men in the truck... whose features I could not see, when they slowed down and almost stopped as they saw me look at them.
Then they continued by me...

they were dragging a large Boer goat, tied around the neck to the bumper.

My friends... I only pray the goat was already dead.

What an unspeakable death.

What cruelty.

It was a horrible start to a holiday weekend.

I'm trying to pray for them, but I was nearly sick in the car.

Keith had come out the gate behind me, but blinded by tears, I don't know if he saw them.

We live two tenths of a mile off the main highway through here...
they would have had to stop and untie the poor goat to put him in the back of the truck,
or risk being seen by police on the highway.

I hope their mothers are very proud of them.

I know the truck now.

  1. You should probably give the police a description of the truck. It could have been someone else's goat.

    1. And of course, I thought of that too late... My eyes were full of tears. Keith did not even see them go by our gate. My guess is they pulled up into the wild area across from us to throw the poor goat in the back of the truck before turning onto the highway. It hurt too bad just to see it.

  3. Oh how awful, some members of the human race are unspeakably cruel, I do not pretend to understand them. I pity them for leading such shallow and evil lives.

  4. Oh my gosh, That just makes me so sick. Why on earth would someone do that?
There are no words to that kind of horror. I am so sorry you saw it but more sorry for the poor goat.

  6. I'm so sorry you had to witness something so horrendous. Man has a lot to answer to someday, especially those two.

  7. It might be possible that they forgot it was tied to the truck. I saw that happen to a horse at a rodeo. Luckily then other people saw what was happening and stopped them before they left the parking area. How horrible and sad.

  9. Ugh. I am catching up and just saw this. That is SICK. I would have been tempted to chase them down and take a picture of the whole thing, then go to the Sheriff. I'm sorry you had to see that, and I hope they get caught.
