A Quiet Sunday

Up early to church, and after reading the paper a bit, on the road to take Nathan home to Garnett after his dad and brother and sister brought him out to the house.

What a glorious drive it was... the colors of autumn are really showing now, reds, golds, oranges, and yellows... in abundance.

It's an absolute pleasure to be out and about in this wonderful weather and time.  I thought several times of my sister, who can't know the beauty of this autumn... but she's in a place that is beautiful all the time now.

You can see all the nests in the cottonwoods by Troy and Kathy's pond now.

This is the southeastern corner of our pasture, and you can just make out the walk gate to the left of the dark railroad tie pole at center.  The area has become overgrown with wild blackberries, which, unfortunately, will need to be cleared out in the spring so that the fences can be maintained.  Yes, I'm still walking about, looking for signs of what happened to Anna.  Now, we are thinking bobcat most likely.  We set the new game cam last night, but mistakenly turned it OFF instead of on in the pasture, so it is down there tonight trying to catch what's happening.

And this last picture is one of the reasons I love it here so very much... this is our eighth year here, taking this wonderful picture... and I enjoy it more with each passing year.

All week I have come in our gate excitedly, looking down the drive for this picture to come into view.  Today the tree in the distance was on fire again, and I went down to the middle of the pasture to see it there, beyond the Spehar's far pond.  I don't know how anyone could doubt there is a God in the heavens who has given us this kind of view to make our hearts sing.

  1. I was thinking bobcat myself. I suspect the dog yowled at him so much is why he didn't take it with him.

  4. That tree is just gorgeous! I agree whole heartedly, beauty like this could never happen by accident!!
This part of Kansas looks so different from the part I've seen firsthand...my brother in law is from very western Kansas, where you can look in four directions and see only one tree!

  6. There is nothing like being able to live in such beauty, it makes you grateful every single day. Lovely pictures. We've got big bad winds here today and almost all our leaves have dropped. Fun to play in them, but not as much to look at so I especially enjoyed these pictures.

  7. Beautiful photos Mary Ann. I have a friend who is an agnostic, but none that are atheists. Particularly love the trees when they turn in the fall and especially the red ones. Mary G.
