The Day Before Super Sunday

Well, we're back to winter here, and got a dusting of about one inch of snow.
However... it was enough to make driving slick...
I tried to get the eggs to the pantry this morning, and tried to go up the gentle hill in downtown Tonganoxie.. now, mind you, I do NOT have a winter car... it's  a Chevy HHR, they sit low to the ground, and though I can pack it full of stuff when the seats are down, they are NOT winter vehicles.  I lost purchase... began to slide... there were trucks parked on either side at a popular bar where people eat breakfast on Saturday... I thought briefly of honking to see if I could raise help, finally got turned around in the middle of the street, and coasted back down.  I was able to turn and go over a street, and then proceed where there was no hill.

On Tuesday, we are to get five inches.  I have already made arrangements to get our drive plowed out.

I'm also not going to be a hero and try to go see my brothers... I'm going to stay home and take care of the animals and be safe.

Remember that I told you that I got 8 bags of feed on Thursday?

I have used almost a whole bag of pellets since Thursday.  As soon as I put some out and walk out of the henyard, the starlings swoop down.  Today, I got smart.  I stayed around so the ducks could eat.
They were waiting for me to get out of the way here, this afternoon.

I walked out into the pasture to fill the fortex out there... and they attacked the lettuce and bread with gusto.  I had also put another scoop of cracked corn and pellets in their feeder.

From here on out, I'm going to feed them, and then stick around a few minutes, so they get a chance at their food.

The day was so cloudy, that the pictures from the camera on the deck did not come out well, despite the hundreds of birds drinking at the water fortex.
Tomorrow we are to have a last day of sun for a few days, and I believe I'll put the camera out early, and hope for a few good pictures.  I just went out to dump the waters for overnight.. and filled the wild bird feeder, the nyger feeder, and the suet feeder.

I snapped this with my phone this afternoon... These guys were SO disgusted with the snow.  They did spend most of the day outside, eating hay... and they are tucked away tonight in their snug little barn with a warming light on them.  They have a deep, deep bed of straw and hay, and can snuggle in it.
They'll have to this week, it's going to be very cold again.

Spring... I can't wait!!

  3. I woke up to another 3 inches of new snow here this morning and it's still snowing...more coming our way mid week too they say. This winter is not going away any time soon for sure. I don't go out at all when it's like this. Take care and keep warm there.

  7. Back for the 1st time in a week. We had sleet, then snow last Tues. You know that shuts Mississippi down when we get that kind of weather.

  8. Those wild birds are out there eating my dog food all the time. Glad the goats are all nice and cozy. Mine are not fans of the snow either.

  9. Mom Kim here - have you heard the latest - now we are scheduled to get anywhere from 6 - 12 inches of snow starting after midnite tonite and lasting thru Wednesday morning. I saw freezing rain mentioned once but that was it and also strong blwing winds. Time to hunker down and hibernate. I wish - the bills don't get paid if I don't go to work.

  10. By the way, I kind of feel like your goats do about the weather - my feeling is NO snow after New Years Day.
