Meet Little Kelly

Well, we had lots of good suggestions for names for the new baby,
and for the time being, we have chosen "Kelly".  Thanks, Michelle at Boulderneigh!

Last night, I went to see him.

Ooops... that's his nether end, under his mama, Pinkie.  All three babies are gold and white, as she is.

Here he is, in the front.  The three babies hide under the crate bottom you see... and there is one little girl still in there.  Mama has a nicely bedded stall to the right, just out sight, and they have access to her and to the larger stall they are in.

Here is Mama checking him out...

That's a pet wether on the left, and then Jasmine and Trixie, her three month old doeling.
I am going to ask Keith to make much the same setup, so that our goats have a place to lounge during the days and nights.  See the brush attached?  They can rub themselves on it, not just cleaning themselves but helping to shed winter coats.  So smart!

Today we are hanging our feeders, as Kody and Kaycee have started eating solid food.  I am slowing down on the bottles, and going to try to get them to two a day here in another week or two.
They came through their surgeries, but I am now a proponent of banding after all this week... and the owners of the above little guy will band him before I get him.  It will be six weeks, as they don't let them go early.  I will also be shown how to trim hooves, give shots, and worm correctly, too, so I am overjoyed.  My goal was to have goats small enough that I could do all this myself, and not have to bother Keith or worse, a friend, as we did with the llamas.
What a happy adventure this has turned out to be!

  1. Love the goats! I have always wanted some, maybe one day. They look like they have a goat palace with that brush, what a great idea :-)

  6. Congratulations! And we had the same experience with the darned vets, we went back to banding the lambs and calves as well. Thirty seconds of irritation and that's it. The anesthesia and cutting is so much harder on the animals.

  11. Wonderful wonderful! I kept meaning to tell you that I thought the little ones were big enough to start eating now. It will be nice to cut back on the milk some. Can't wait to hear and see more. Good luck!
