Our Little Patient and Some Pictures

Our little patient, Abby, is back at the vet's office today.

Extremely lethargic this morning, I knew something was up and
took her to the vet... her blood sugar was so high it wouldn't register on the meter.

The vet kept her, and is going to try to stabilize her this afternoon, so we
can bring her home this evening.

Yes, we're very worried about our little girl.  We have had a hard time
learning how to give the shots... it is not pleasant for her or for us...
and now we are worried all over again.

The Calamity Acres chicken flock.

These guys stayed in the rafters so long, they are hesitant to come down, though
they know now that there are no other chickens to bother them.  They do still have
an open area in the old chicken yard they can go in, though the little chicken yard is
rapidly becoming overgrown with weeds.

Proof that they DO hit the ground from time to time!

Ummm... this guy is living in their house with them...

He's a beauty, isn't he?

Here's our girl Lil after a pop up storm cleared the air this morning... you can see the pasture grass is now higher than she is, and she does not go down there now.
She still runs all over the yard, though.

I took this Tuesday night... the iris show is still going on... and yes, the gardens are very beautiful but becoming overgrown, as well.  I am still moving boxes, and trying to keep up with both places... and it is not easy.

I am making progress though... little by little!   I hope to have some things to show you here, too... very soon.

And, as you will see below, nocturnal visitors are still coming to Calamity Acres at night.  I have a fortex on the porch for the wild birds, still... and someone else is drinking from it!

I left the camera up today and will leave it up tonight... and we'll see what is on it tomorrow.

  12. Hopefully your sweet little one is home soon and the sugar is regulated. My daughter had a dog that went through that too. It isn't easy at all. Glad you are seeing some progress being made that is a good feeling. We are seeing some beautiful days here and looks like a great Memorial Day weekend ahead.

  13. So sorry about Abby. I know it is hard to balance the levels with diabetes. However once stabilized it gets easier. Any you and she will get used to the shots. I had a diabetic dog that I gave shots to for four years. I would say "Time for your shot." and he would come and sit with his back to me waiting for it. He got much love and praise for being such a good boy. He would do anything for a hug.

  16. We're sad to hear Abby is still having some problems. We hope she'll be home soon.

I think your snake in the chicken coop either has or will shed his skin. I noticed his eye is cloudy in the picture.

  23. This is Keith. Thank you everyone for your kind comments. It truly was Abby's time to cross the bridge, and she did it quietly and gracefully last night. When we went to bed last night, Abby was laying quietly in her crate on her pad. Her breathing was labored, but she seemed to be relaxed. At about 2:15 this morning I went to check on her. I said something to her and she slowly looked up at me and wagged her tail, then quietly laid her head back down to rest. At about 5:15, I went to check on her again. She was in the same position, but cold to the touch and stiffness was starting to set in. She had obviously been gone for a while, and I think she must have passed away shortly after I checked on her at 2:15. We do and always will miss her, but we are so thankful that she was able to cross the bridge quietly tucked in at home rather than in some cold vet's kennel. Mary Ann will post later. Thank you again.
