An Emergency

Okay, everyone .... DON'T LAUGH.

Our tv satellite (Dish Network) is OUT.  Yes, we paid our bill.... and it is completely OUT.  We had high winds for two days, and though it was working late last night (Keith stayed up to watch tv)... it was out this morning before work when I sat down to feed Hannah and hear the morning drive conditions.  Keith was home for lunch and it was not working then, and we just got off the phone with Dish and they told us we are not getting signal.

Guess when the tech can come???

WEDNESDAY!!!!

AFTER PLAYOFF WEEKEND!!!!!

Nathan is coming tomorrow morning, and will be crushed, as he has only basic service at his home.

What a week this has been!

I did not write about it, but there were layoffs at my office on Monday, and on Wednesday, I found out that the boss I have had for the last year... a very nice guy, fun to work for, has received a HUGE promotion and I'm losing him.  I'm telling you, when it rains, it pours.  While I'm glad for him, I'm sorry for those who are now in the ranks of the unemployed, and praying for them.

When I left the office tonight, I went to the feed store... I love going there, because it always smells so good... especially in summer, but even now.

No, that's not our truck, but that's part of my load coming out.

We got a warning from our feed man that if we need hay, we had better buy it now.  We trust him, as I have traded with him for 15 years... and if he says it is going to be hard to find, it will be.
The llamas go through about a bale a week, and we have five bales on hand, so tomorrow, Keith will go and buy four or five more, which will take us to the end of February.  I noticed that the hay in his barn at the store did not look as good as the last four bales bought.  We have seen lots of hay leaving here on huge trailers... we guess it is going out to western Kansas where they have had drought conditions for several years.

If worst comes to absolute worst, we'll feed chops, but I want to avoid that if possible.  I also noted that there was NO alfalfa in the feed store's barn.

I am going to take some time tonight to find some covered feeders to put in the chicken houses.  I am sick of feeding the starlings, and Keith re-fed at noon today while home for lunch because everything I put out at 6:15 AM was gone again.  All water, all feed.  I'm telling you, they are VORACIOUS.  I have noticed them online, so will look for some now, and try to find some affordable.  I would be glad if anyone has suggestions.

Keith left to go try to rent some movies at the Red Box at our grocery in Tongie.  I think I hear him coming back.  We rarely watch movies here, so this is a first.  I guess I'll finish this post, and go make some chocolate chip cookies so we have something to snack on!

  1. Sorry to hear about your dish service being out. We don't follow sports, but the guys do like their T.V.. I know what you mean about he smell of the feed store. I like the way they smell too. I also like the way my garden shed smells.

  2. It would be an emergency for us too if our TV went out and we could not see the Saints play this weekend. Something has to cheer us up after what a disaster the LSU game was.
Hay and alfalfa is very expensive here since Texas and Louisiana have been in a drought for 2 years. But we have a good amount of rain so far this winter! One feed store told me they went to New Mexico to get it and the other store said they went to Colorado.
Hope he picked out a good movie.

  3. You might check Craigslist for hay.....I did that a couple of winters ago when we ran short....I was surprised to find some, it wasn't the greatest....but got us through until first cutting in late spring.

  5. Oh no! Not the TV! I know what you mean about the feed stores. I also like how I never have to worry about being in my chore clothes when I go in. Nobody notices or cares :) I can't help you with the bird problem - been there - done that. No one can accuse me of not feeding the wild birds.

  6. Much of the hay in MS went to TX because of their drought.
