Why We Put One Foot in Front of the Other

Last Wednesday, when I was so sick... I had to go out and do the evening chores, despite the fact I hurt, as Keith was out of town.  I was muttering to myself by the third time I had to go out... because even though it was raining and blowing like the dickens, Rocky the big rooster and six hens would NOT go in.  Finally, at dark, on the fourth try, I netted Rocky and put him in, and the girls followed right after.  I was cold and wet and shivering and told Keith when he finally got home from out of town that I was TOO OLD FOR THIS.

Tonight it is pouring rain again, rain we desperately need.  I did extra chores last night, anticipating the rain.  I ran through the chores, and it was easy, because the birds had all gone in in the rain.  I moved the porcelains back inside for the next few days... their cage is small but they don't move around very much outside as it is.

Here is why we do it...

On Saturday, Keith took the eggs to our food kitchen.  This is a small operation that is financed by donations only, and the sale of donated clothing and household goods to the thrift store that runs it.  You know I told you about the new families who have had to go there for food this summer.  As Keith walked in the back door to put the eggs in the refrigerator, he was greeted by one of the volunteers.  She exclaimed when she saw the eggs... because there was a mother with children waiting there to pick up some food needed at home.... and the eggs went from Keith's hand to their waiting sacks.  We only had two dozen this week... the moult.... but they need many more.  This is why we are still putting one foot in front of the other, and why I go out in the cold and wet when I don't feel good.

The buff cochin pullet flew down with the others this morning and ate and drank as if nothing were wrong.

The hawk was in a tree by our gate when I pulled up, but flew away hungry.

I thank you for all your comments last night about my rant.

Some of the working girls.

I missed your post yesterday and while I've not had that specific problem, I've had others with blogger lately. It's aggravating to say the least!
Hope you are feeling better and have a nice week!
